Holiday Gift Ideas

The holidays are just around the corner, and Lovie’s Legacy has a great way to help you check the names off your gift list while supporting animals and education!

Please consider a classroom sponsorship of $100.00 for our educational program, Creature Care. Currently in its second year in Metro Schools, Creature Care teaches young children (Pre K through 2nd grade) how to be kind to animals and how to interact safely with animals. In addition to the grade appropriate curriculum (developed by Metro teachers) we take certified Delta therapy dogs into the classroom with us. This gives children the opportunity to learn how to safely approach an animal and helps many overcome their fear of animals. To see a child find the courage and feel the confidence to pet a dog for the first time is truly a magical moment!

Your tax deductible $100.00 classroom sponsorship ensures that we are able to continue providing the materials we use in each class including visual aids, continuing education activities for the teachers, and future reprints of Hinckley Goes to School. Written by one of our Delta therapy teams, this book summarizes the content of the program from Hinckley’s perspective. The best part is that each child that hears the Creature Care program receives a copy of this book to take home with him/her. The hope is that this becomes something to be shared with parents, grandparents, siblings and friends.

This is truly a great way to honor the animal lovers on your list or remember someone special. In addition to a holiday letter acknowledging your gift, the recipient will receive a copy of Hinckley Goes to School. Donations may be made through PayPal or by sending a check to P.O. Box 120272 – Nashville, TN 37212. Please provide the name and address that the acknowledgement should be sent to.

Yard Sale is a Success!

Thanks to our awesome volunteers and the many great friends who turned out to support us, the Lovie's Legacy yard sale raised almost $4,000. Special ‘thank you's’ to Belle Meade Executive Suites for their generosity, to the Beveled Edge and Come.Sit.Stay for the great merchandise they donated, and to Ms. Cheap for her mention in the Tennessean. Finally, thank you to everyone who played a role in this. Whether you donated an item or bought an item, you made a difference in the lives of animals!

Creature Care visits the Boys & Girls Club

Our friends at WSMV Channel 4 were on hand when Hinckley and Creature Care visited the Boys & Girls Club recently. The children had a great time learning about the needs and feelings of animals – and the important jobs that animals can have in our community. Lovie’s Legacy thanks Representative Janis Sontany for her love and support of animals and children.

Dog "Throws" First Pitch at Nashville Sounds Baseball Game

Local Animal Welfare Group’s Volunteer Dog, "Hinckley," Connects with Players and Fans.

Nashville, Tenn. (June 24, 2011) – Hinckley, a Delta-trained service dog for Lovie’s Legacy, the featured ‘Purity Charity of the Game’ at Thursday night’s Nashville Sounds’ game, threw the first pitch, delighting players and fans alike.

Shana King, executive director of Lovie’s Legacy, said Hinckley was a hit.

“Hinckley was our star at Thursday night’s Sounds game and we hope we were able to put a smile on people’s faces as they watched him "throw" the first pitch,” King said. “We are very grateful to the Nashville Sounds for allowing us to raise awareness at their game for animal welfare.”

“Hinckley is one of our Delta-trained volunteer dogs who is part of our child education program,” King explained.

The Lovie's Legacy education program, Creature Care, conducted 33 Pre-K and elementary school classes in Metro schools last year. The classes teach children how to deal with animals in a safe, loving and respectful way. This summer, the one-hour classes will be in several children's programs.

Lovie's Legacy honors the life of Mrs. Lovie Mae Smith

Lovie Mae Smith Lovie lived a simple life with few luxuries, but had a great love of animals and frequently rescued and cared for many cats in her little bungalow in Nashville, TN. Before she left this world, she made sure that her legacy of love for animals would continue by directing the formation of the non-profit corporation known as Lovie's Legacy.

The road is wide and the needs are many, so we invite you to join us on our journey of  "Helping People Help Animals."

The biggest miracle we had over the last year was the kind and generous donation from Lovie's Legacy. Without the help of your donation we would have never made it.
